| Praxis, Erfahrung, Erlebnis |
[Nov. 25th, 2009|05:50 pm] |
Hello,
I was hoping someone could explain the difference between these words: Praxis, Erfahrung, & Erlebnis. Most translators say they mean experience in English, but I'm curious about their different uses in German. I assume they are not interchangeable?
Thanks |

The item my husband and I want to get is listed as a "door buster" and I'm disabled so we want to know ahead of time if Black Friday is crazy dangerous at Targets here. |

| Laufen/rennen |
[Nov. 25th, 2009|11:31 am] |
Moin! I was wondering if anyone could help settle a minor debate between me and my tutor (neither of us being native speakers of German). According to him, people don't 'rennen', they always 'laufen'. Only animals 'rennen'. Is he right? I'd always thought people could laufen and rennen, but rennen would be more 'running with purpose', ie, in a race. And what about 'Lola rennt'?? Danke im Voraus! |

AUSTIN (KXAN) - The low-key spot at the end of a strip center off Highway 183 near North Lamar attracts big talent to Austin. Capital City Comedy Club has plastered stand-up comedian and sitcom star D.L. Hughley's name, of The Hughleys, across the tall marquee out front.
The night Hughley is scheduled to step on stage, the church next door, Fresh Oil Family Fellowship , has planned a protest against the comedy club in the parking lot.( Read more... ) |

Hallo!

What's the best place in or around Austin to get a strong margarita? I'm a fan of strawberry but at this point, any margarita will do.
Also - best enchiladas verde?
Thanks for all the great suggestions so far! I'm looking forward to trying some of these places out. |

| elementary schools |
[Nov. 23rd, 2009|11:34 pm] |
I'm looking to move to Austin with my best friend soonish and we are aiming to live near a really good elementary school [exemplary status, high test scores, etc] for her six year old daughter to start first grade this coming fall.
I checked on the AISD website and have done some googling, but numbers and stats can only tell you so much... does anyone have recommendations for good elementary schools? Private school isn't completely off the table [she's in private school right now], but public school is greatly preferred for the sake of her budget.
Also: it's been a while since I was in the K-12 system... do they still do the GT program?
Thanks! |

Where can I take 20 folks for breakfast on a Saturday at 8:00 am near the Austin Convention Center and be able to talk to each other? The nearby hotels want to much $$$, also most involved will not have transportation.
Thanks

| German children books |
[Nov. 23rd, 2009|02:03 pm] |
Hey there! Can anyone recommend some good German children books? I wanted to give something special to my best friend for Christmas. She's studing translation and loves children books, I found this site (thalia) but there are to many titles to choose from so I'm kinda lost. I'm sure she has already read the Her Bello trilogy and Zugmaus by Uwe Timm. Something inedit would be better but classics will do too. Thanks in advance to everyone who could help!

[Nov. 22nd, 2009|07:06 pm] |
I would really like to make a venus fly trap terrarium. I went The Great Outdoors earlier today but didn't find a venus fly trap, i may have missed it though. Has anyone seen any venus fly traps around Austin?
If anyone has any other suggestions for the glass container or other terrariums supplies/stores/suggestions I love to hear them!!
Thanks! |
